How to Remove Lint Balls From Comforter

Comforters are made from two pieces of cloth sewed together and filled with fluffy fibers like wool, cotton, silk, or polyester.

It provides comfort and relaxation while you sleep! But what if your comforter is covered in a layer of lint?

Here are a few possible approaches on how to remove lint balls from comforter.

What is a Lint?

Before you can remove lint, you need to know what it is!

After washing or drying your fabric, loose fibers can form. You can also rewash your blanket and add vinegar to the rinse water if it produces a lot of lint.

Some even advocate using lint collector fabrics like microfiber, velvet, or corduroy from your closet instead of the dryer. Since these fabrics pick up the lint, you don't have to worry about getting stuck to the dryer. This method may work if you don't mind lint collecting in an old garment.

What is Pilling?

Pilling is distinct from loose lint in that it is made up of fibers that have gathered together into balls. Using a shaver and running it over the surface of the cloth should be enough to eliminate this fuzzy buildup.

What causes pilling, though? If you didn't wash and dry your blanket according to the manufacturer's directions, it would pill more easily. Piling is a common problem with lower-quality materials. On the other hand, flannel, fleece, and wool will pill more quickly due to their nature as fuzzy textiles.

Possible Causes of Lint Balls in Comforter

Your blanket is covered in lint because you probably washed it with something else. To avoid lint buildup, it's advisable not to wash lint shedders with lint attractors. When it comes to fabrics, cotton sheds lint, whereas polyester, knitted products like scarves and linens, and synthetics all attract it.

Using fabric softeners and dryer sheets might also lead to the blanket dropping lint. Regarding drying blankets, only microfleece can be done on a clothesline instead of the dryer. If you're going to dry your blanket in the dryer, throw in a few tennis balls to remove any lint.

How to Get Rid of Fuzzy Balls and Lint Puffs

1. Shaver

It is the best solution out there for getting rid of lint. Razor blades can be dangerous, but using a shaver is more accessible and safer. However, if you don't pay attention while removing lint, you might shave too much fabric and make the rest of the cloth too thin.

2. Sweater Stone

The lint balls disappear as if by magic when you use the stone to remove the rough spots from your comforter. It is handy to keep on hand if you need to defuzz in a pinch.

3. Duct or Tape

Use an adhesive-side-up tape and attach it to your comforter. The tape can easily remove pilling as you pull it off. Lint rollers can also be purchased with a roll of adhesive tape.

4. A Pair of Razor-Sharp Scissors

It is a labor-intensive, though low-tech, approach to pill removal. Carefully remove each lint ball by pulling on it gently.

Getting Rid of Pills in a Comforter When Using a Washing Machine

Comforters are swung around and rubbed against each other in a washing machine. Friction damages the fibers, resulting in the ugly lint we all hate seeing. Here are a few washing safety tips to keep your clothes from getting abrasive:

  • Before washing, make sure to turn your comforters inside out.
  • Secondly, use liquid soap. This guards against granule abrasion damage caused by washing powder. The washing powder should be dissolved in the water before the clothes are added to the wash.
  • Separate cotton and non-cotton goods, for example, and dark clothing from comforters before washing.
  • Using a lint catcher in the washer is a good idea. Cut a square of voile or net to build a lint catcher at home. Most of the hair and fluff that is generated throughout the washing process will be captured by this device.

Conclusion

Are there any stray fibers in your blanket? The most effective way to eliminate lint is to identify the sources of its production! You'll have a better idea of how to get rid of lint once you know the leading cause. Always separate your various blanket materials and follow the label's instructions.
